Summary:

The Director - Finance, in addition to overseeing and managing the organization's financial operations, is an integral member of the management team and participates in strategic decisions. This role plays a crucial part not only in financial stability, but also in developing and nurturing talent within the finance team, with a particular emphasis on people management and coaching. The Director - Finance reports directly to the President and collaborates with other departments to achieve the organization's financial and people objectives.  

 

 

Main responsibilities:  

 

Leadership and team development:  

  • Lead and inspire the finance team by providing ongoing coaching, development opportunities and personalized mentoring to foster individual and team growth.  

  • Establish clear performance objectives, conduct regular appraisals, and provide constructive feedback to promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.  

  • Create a collaborative and motivating work environment, focused on well-being and talent development.  

  • Encourage the development of leadership skills within the team, while promoting a climate of trust and autonomy.  

 

Financial management:  

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including management of budgets, accounting, payroll, and cash flow, while ensuring compliance with financial regulations and accounting principles.  

  • Ensure that internal controls are effective in protecting assets and maintaining the integrity of financial information.  

  • Monitor financial performance and identify risks, taking the necessary corrective action.  

 

Strategic planning and decision support:  

  • Collaborate with management to develop financial strategies aligned with the organization's overall strategic objectives, while taking into account human and organizational needs.  

  • Provide financial analysis and insight to support decision-making, with a focus on sustainability and long-term growth.  

  • Evaluate and recommend financial strategies that promote not only growth, but also talent development.  

 

Stakeholder relations:  

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including teams, board members and regulatory authorities.  

  • Act as a trusted advisor on financial matters, taking an empathetic, people-centered approach to all interactions.  

 

 

Experience and qualifications  

  • CPA designation  

  • Proven experience (typically 7-10 years) in financial management, with a track record of success in increasingly responsible roles.  

  • Strong financial analysis and modeling skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.  

  • In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles and best practices.  

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with emphasis on promoting collaboration, development and a positive working culture.  

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.  

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a strategic and analytical mindset.  

  • Strong management skills with all levels of employees  

  • Process improvement skills in a variety of control environments.  

  • Hands-on approach and team spirit  

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a definite asset, including costing and inventory management.  

  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, including ERP and financial planning.
